NoorIlm — نور العلم
Light of Knowledge. A free, open platform for exploring the Quran, Islamic jurisprudence, and scholarly tradition — built to make authentic sources accessible to everyone.
Our Purpose
NoorIlm exists because understanding Islam shouldn't require years of Arabic study or access to expensive academic resources. We believe every Muslim — and anyone curious about Islam — deserves direct access to the Quran, hadith, and scholarly tradition in a format that's clear, navigable, and honest about where the information comes from.
Our approach is evidence-first. Every fiqh ruling links back to its Quranic ayah or hadith evidence. Every claim is attributed. We don't present opinions as facts, and we don't hide disagreement between scholars — we surface it, because understanding the range of scholarly thought is itself a form of knowledge.
NoorIlm is a bridge to primary sources, not a replacement for them. We want you to read the ayah yourself, check the hadith reference on Sunnah.com, and form your own informed understanding — ideally with the guidance of a qualified scholar.
How We Approach Fiqh
The Fiqh Explorer presents positions from all four Sunni schools of thought — Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali — side by side on the same page. We don't rank madhabs or declare one “correct.” Each position is presented with its evidence (Quran ayahs, hadith references, scholarly reasoning) so you can understand why scholars reached different conclusions.
This is a neutral, comparative methodology. We are not affiliated with any particular madhab, organization, or sect. Our goal is education, not persuasion.
We do not issue fatwas. If you need a ruling for your personal situation, please consult a qualified scholar who understands your circumstances.

Our Sources
Transparency about where our content comes from is non-negotiable. Here's what powers NoorIlm:
- Quran text & translations — sourced from the Quran.com API and the Quran Foundation. Arabic text uses the Uthmanic Hafs script. English translation is Sahih International.
- Audio recitations — Mishari Rashid al-Afasy, served via QuranCDN (word-level and ayah-level audio)
- Tafsir — Ibn Kathir tafsir accessed through the Quran.com API
- Hadith references — linked to Sunnah.com for verification. For collections not hosted on Sunnah.com (such as al-Bayhaqi or al-Hakim), we link to other reliable sources
- Fiqh positions — compiled from classical and contemporary scholarly references, with each madhab's evidence cited alongside the ruling
- Per-ayah explanations — original conversational explanations written for every ayah of the Quran, designed to make each verse accessible to modern readers
- Guides, sirah, biographies, and insights — original content by the NoorIlm team, researched from widely accepted classical sources
Cross-Referencing
One of NoorIlm's core features is cross-referencing between sections. When a fiqh ruling cites a Quranic ayah, you can click through to read that ayah in the Quran Reader with its full explanation. When a guide references a fiqh question, you can jump to the comparative view. Sirah events link to relevant Quran passages. Everything connects.
This isn't just navigation — it's how Islamic knowledge actually works. The Quran, hadith, fiqh, and history are deeply interconnected, and we built NoorIlm to reflect that.
A Note on Limitations
We are not scholars. We are a small team building a tool to make Islamic knowledge more accessible. While we work hard to ensure accuracy — verifying hadith references, cross-checking scholarly positions, attributing sources — errors are possible.
If you find something that seems incorrect, incomplete, or could be improved, we genuinely want to hear about it. Every correction makes NoorIlm better for the next person.
