Patience
الصبرAyahs about patience, perseverance, and steadfastness.
20 ayahs
wa-is'taʿīnū bil-ṣabri wal-ṣalati wa-innahā lakabīratun illā ʿalā l-khāshiʿīna
And seek help through patience and prayer; and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allāh]
yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū is'taʿīnū bil-ṣabri wal-ṣalati inna l-laha maʿa l-ṣābirīna
O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allāh is with the patient.
walanabluwannakum bishayin mina l-khawfi wal-jūʿi wanaqṣin mina l-amwāli wal-anfusi wal-thamarāti wabashiri l-ṣābirīna
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
alladhīna idhā aṣābathum muṣībatun qālū innā lillahi wa-innā ilayhi rājiʿūna
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allāh, and indeed to Him we will return."
ulāika ʿalayhim ṣalawātun min rabbihim waraḥmatun wa-ulāika humu l-muh'tadūna
Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū iṣ'birū waṣābirū warābiṭū wa-ittaqū l-laha laʿallakum tuf'liḥūna
O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allāh that you may be successful.
wa-iṣ'bir fa-inna l-laha lā yuḍīʿu ajra l-muḥ'sinīna
And be patient, for indeed, Allāh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.
wajāū ʿalā qamīṣihi bidamin kadhibin qāla bal sawwalat lakum anfusukum amran faṣabrun jamīlun wal-lahu l-mus'taʿānu ʿalā mā taṣifūna
And they brought upon his shirt false blood. [Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allāh is the one sought for help against that which you describe."
qāla bal sawwalat lakum anfusukum amran faṣabrun jamīlun ʿasā l-lahu an yatiyanī bihim jamīʿan innahu huwa l-ʿalīmu l-ḥakīmu
[Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. Perhaps Allāh will bring them to me all together. Indeed, it is He who is the Knowing, the Wise."
wa-in ʿāqabtum faʿāqibū bimith'li mā ʿūqib'tum bihi wala-in ṣabartum lahuwa khayrun lilṣṣābirīna
And if you punish [an enemy, O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient.
wa-iṣ'bir wamā ṣabruka illā bil-lahi walā taḥzan ʿalayhim walā taku fī ḍayqin mimmā yamkurūna
And be patient, [O Muḥammad], and your patience is not but through Allāh. And do not grieve over them and do not be in distress over what they conspire.
fa-iṣ'bir ʿalā mā yaqūlūna wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulūʿi l-shamsi waqabla ghurūbihā wamin ānāi al-layli fasabbiḥ wa-aṭrāfa l-nahāri laʿallaka tarḍā
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.
yābunayya aqimi l-ṣalata wamur bil-maʿrūfi wa-in'ha ʿani l-munkari wa-iṣ'bir ʿalā mā aṣābaka inna dhālika min ʿazmi l-umūri
O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] resolve.
qul yāʿibādi alladhīna āmanū ittaqū rabbakum lilladhīna aḥsanū fī hādhihi l-dun'yā ḥasanatun wa-arḍu l-lahi wāsiʿatun innamā yuwaffā l-ṣābirūna ajrahum bighayri ḥisābin
Say, "O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. For those who do good in this world is good, and the earth of Allāh is spacious. Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account [i.e., limit]."
walaman ṣabara waghafara inna dhālika lamin ʿazmi l-umūri
And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of resolve.
fa-iṣ'bir kamā ṣabara ulū l-ʿazmi mina l-rusuli walā tastaʿjil lahum ka-annahum yawma yarawna mā yūʿadūna lam yalbathū illā sāʿatan min nahārin balāghun fahal yuh'laku illā l-qawmu l-fāsiqūna
So be patient, [O Muḥammad], as were those of determination among the messengers and do not be impatient for them. It will be - on the Day they see that which they are promised - as though they had not remained [in the world] except an hour of a day. [This is] notification. And will [any] be destroyed except the defiantly disobedient people?
fa-iṣ'bir ṣabran jamīlan
So be patient with gracious patience.
wal-ʿaṣri
By time,
inna l-insāna lafī khus'rin
Indeed, mankind is in loss,
illā alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti watawāṣaw bil-ḥaqi watawāṣaw bil-ṣabri
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
