Do You Say Ameen Out Loud in Prayer?
Every unit of prayer includes al-Fatihah, the short opening chapter of the Quran. It ends with a line asking Allah for guidance, and Ameen is how you say 'so be it' to a request like that. The imam finishes al-Fatihah, and in some mosques the whole room says Ameen so you feel it. In others you hear almost nothing. If you have moved between communities you have met both, and it can feel like one of them must be doing it wrong. Neither is. All four schools agree you say Ameen. They disagree about your volume, and in one school the imam stays quiet while everyone behind him does not.

Stand in a row at any large mosque and look down the line. Some people are holding their hands below the navel, some just under the chest, and some are letting them hang straight down at their sides. Nobody is doing it wrong. This is one of those differences you can literally see, and the reason behind it goes deeper than the hands.
