وَمَا And not ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ We wronged them وَلَـٰكِن but ظَلَمُوٓا۟ they wronged أَنفُسَهُمْ ۖ themselves فَمَآ So not أَغْنَتْ availed عَنْهُمْ them ءَالِهَتُهُمُ their gods ٱلَّتِى which يَدْعُونَ they invoked مِن other than Allah دُونِ other than Allah ٱللَّهِ other than Allah مِن any شَىْءٍۢ thing لَّمَّا when جَآءَ came أَمْرُ (the) command (of) your Lord رَبِّكَ ۖ (the) command (of) your Lord وَمَا And not زَادُوهُمْ they increased them غَيْرَ other than تَتْبِيبٍۢ ruin ١٠١
wamā ẓalamnāhum walākin ẓalamū anfusahum famā aghnat ʿanhum ālihatuhumu allatī yadʿūna min dūni l-lahi min shayin lammā jāa amru rabbika wamā zādūhum ghayra tatbībin
And We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. And they were not availed at all by their gods which they invoked other than Allāh when there came the command of your Lord. And they did not increase them in other than ruin.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus أَخْذُ (is) the seizure (of) your Lord رَبِّكَ (is) the seizure (of) your Lord إِذَآ when أَخَذَ He seizes ٱلْقُرَىٰ the cities وَهِىَ while they ظَـٰلِمَةٌ ۚ (are) doing wrong إِنَّ Indeed أَخْذَهُۥٓ His seizure أَلِيمٌۭ (is) painful شَدِيدٌ (and) severe ١٠٢
wakadhālika akhdhu rabbika idhā akhadha l-qurā wahiya ẓālimatun inna akhdhahu alīmun shadīdun
And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the cities while they are committing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe.
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ (is) surely a Sign لِّمَنْ for (those) who خَافَ fear عَذَابَ (the) punishment ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ (of) the Hereafter ذَٰلِكَ That يَوْمٌۭ (is) a Day مَّجْمُوعٌۭ (will) be gathered لَّهُ on it ٱلنَّاسُ the mankind وَذَٰلِكَ and that يَوْمٌۭ (is) a Day مَّشْهُودٌۭ witnessed ١٠٣
inna fī dhālika laāyatan liman khāfa ʿadhāba l-ākhirati dhālika yawmun majmūʿun lahu l-nāsu wadhālika yawmun mashhūdun
Indeed in that is a sign for those who fear the punishment of the Hereafter. That is a Day for which the people will be collected, and that is a Day [which will be] witnessed.
وَمَا And not نُؤَخِّرُهُۥٓ We delay it إِلَّا except لِأَجَلٍۢ for a term مَّعْدُودٍۢ limited ١٠٤
wamā nu-akhiruhu illā li-ajalin maʿdūdin
And We do not delay it except for a limited term.
يَوْمَ (The) Day يَأْتِ (it) comes لَا not تَكَلَّمُ will speak نَفْسٌ a soul إِلَّا except بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۚ by His leave فَمِنْهُمْ Then among them شَقِىٌّۭ (will be the) wretched وَسَعِيدٌۭ and (the) glad ١٠٥
yawma yati lā takallamu nafsun illā bi-idh'nihi famin'hum shaqiyyun wasaʿīdun
The Day it comes no soul will speak except by His permission. And among them will be the wretched and the prosperous.
فَأَمَّا As for ٱلَّذِينَ those who شَقُوا۟ were wretched فَفِى then (they will be) in ٱلنَّارِ the Fire لَهُمْ For them فِيهَا therein زَفِيرٌۭ (is) sighing وَشَهِيقٌ and wailing ١٠٦
fa-ammā alladhīna shaqū fafī l-nāri lahum fīhā zafīrun washahīqun
As for those who were [destined to be] wretched, they will be in the Fire. For them therein is [violent] exhaling and inhaling.
خَـٰلِدِينَ (Will be) abiding فِيهَا therein مَا as long as remain دَامَتِ as long as remain ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضُ and the earth إِلَّا except مَا what your Lord wills شَآءَ what your Lord wills رَبُّكَ ۚ what your Lord wills إِنَّ Indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord فَعَّالٌۭ (is) All-Accomplisher لِّمَا of what يُرِيدُ He intends ١٠٧
khālidīna fīhā mā dāmati l-samāwātu wal-arḍu illā mā shāa rabbuka inna rabbaka faʿʿālun limā yurīdu
[They will be] abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will. Indeed, your Lord is an effecter of what He intends.
۞ وَأَمَّا And as for ٱلَّذِينَ those who سُعِدُوا۟ were glad فَفِى then (they will be) in ٱلْجَنَّةِ Paradise خَـٰلِدِينَ (will be) abiding فِيهَا therein مَا as long as remains دَامَتِ as long as remains ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضُ and the earth إِلَّا except مَا what your Lord wills شَآءَ what your Lord wills رَبُّكَ ۖ what your Lord wills عَطَآءً a bestowal غَيْرَ not مَجْذُوذٍۢ interrupted ١٠٨
wa-ammā alladhīna suʿidū fafī l-janati khālidīna fīhā mā dāmati l-samāwātu wal-arḍu illā mā shāa rabbuka ʿaṭāan ghayra majdhūdhin
And as for those who were [destined to be] prosperous, they will be in Paradise, abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will - a bestowal uninterrupted.
فَلَا So (do) not تَكُ be فِى in مِرْيَةٍۢ doubt مِّمَّا as to what يَعْبُدُ worship هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚ these (polytheists) مَا Not يَعْبُدُونَ they worship إِلَّا except كَمَا as what يَعْبُدُ worshipped ءَابَآؤُهُم their forefathers مِّن before قَبْلُ ۚ before وَإِنَّا And indeed, We لَمُوَفُّوهُمْ will surely pay them in full نَصِيبَهُمْ their share غَيْرَ without مَنقُوصٍۢ being diminished ١٠٩
falā taku fī mir'yatin mimmā yaʿbudu hāulāi mā yaʿbudūna illā kamā yaʿbudu ābāuhum min qablu wa-innā lamuwaffūhum naṣībahum ghayra manqūṣin
So do not be in doubt, [O Muḥammad], as to what these [polytheists] are worshipping. They worship not except as their fathers worshipped before. And indeed, We will give them their share undiminished.
وَلَقَدْ And verily ءَاتَيْنَا We gave مُوسَى Musa ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book فَٱخْتُلِفَ but differences arose فِيهِ ۚ therein وَلَوْلَا And if not كَلِمَةٌۭ (for) a Word سَبَقَتْ (that) preceded مِن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord لَقُضِىَ surely would have been judged بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ between them وَإِنَّهُمْ And indeed, they لَفِى surely (are) in شَكٍّۢ doubt مِّنْهُ concerning it مُرِيبٍۢ suspicious ١١٠
walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba fa-ukh'tulifa fīhi walawlā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laquḍiya baynahum wa-innahum lafī shakkin min'hu murībin
And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture, but it came under disagreement. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, it would have been judged between them. And indeed they are, concerning it [i.e., the Qur’ān], in disquieting doubt.
وَإِنَّ And indeed كُلًّۭا to each [when] لَّمَّا to each [when] لَيُوَفِّيَنَّهُمْ surely will pay them in full رَبُّكَ your Lord أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ ۚ their deeds إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He بِمَا of what يَعْمَلُونَ they do خَبِيرٌۭ (is) All-Aware ١١١
wa-inna kullan lammā layuwaffiyannahum rabbuka aʿmālahum innahu bimā yaʿmalūna khabīrun
And indeed, each [of the believers and disbelievers] - your Lord will fully compensate them for their deeds. Indeed, He is Aware of what they do.
فَٱسْتَقِمْ So stand firm كَمَآ as أُمِرْتَ you are commanded وَمَن and (those) who تَابَ turn (in repentance) مَعَكَ with you وَلَا and (do) not تَطْغَوْا۟ ۚ transgress إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He بِمَا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do بَصِيرٌۭ (is) All-Seer ١١٢
fa-is'taqim kamā umir'ta waman tāba maʿaka walā taṭghaw innahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīrun
So remain on a right course as you have been commanded, [you] and those who have turned back with you [to Allāh], and do not transgress. Indeed, He is Seeing of what you do.
وَلَا And (do) not تَرْكَنُوٓا۟ incline إِلَى to ٱلَّذِينَ those who ظَلَمُوا۟ do wrong فَتَمَسَّكُمُ lest touches you ٱلنَّارُ the Fire وَمَا and not لَكُم (is) for you مِّن besides Allah دُونِ besides Allah ٱللَّهِ besides Allah مِنْ any أَوْلِيَآءَ protectors ثُمَّ then لَا not تُنصَرُونَ you will be helped ١١٣
walā tarkanū ilā alladhīna ẓalamū fatamassakumu l-nāru wamā lakum min dūni l-lahi min awliyāa thumma lā tunṣarūna
And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest you be touched by the Fire, and you would not have other than Allāh any protectors; then you would not be helped.
وَأَقِمِ And establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer طَرَفَىِ (at the) two ends ٱلنَّهَارِ (of) the day وَزُلَفًۭا and (at) the approach مِّنَ of ٱلَّيْلِ ۚ the night إِنَّ Indeed ٱلْحَسَنَـٰتِ the good deeds يُذْهِبْنَ remove ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ۚ the evil deeds ذَٰلِكَ That ذِكْرَىٰ (is) a reminder لِلذَّٰكِرِينَ for those who remember ١١٤
wa-aqimi l-ṣalata ṭarafayi l-nahāri wazulafan mina al-layli inna l-ḥasanāti yudh'hib'na l-sayiāti dhālika dhik'rā lildhākirīna
And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.
وَٱصْبِرْ And be patient فَإِنَّ for indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يُضِيعُ let go waste أَجْرَ (the) reward ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ (of) the good-doers ١١٥
wa-iṣ'bir fa-inna l-laha lā yuḍīʿu ajra l-muḥ'sinīna
And be patient, for indeed, Allāh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.
فَلَوْلَا So why not كَانَ had been مِنَ of ٱلْقُرُونِ the generations مِن before you قَبْلِكُمْ before you أُو۟لُوا۟ those possessing a remnant بَقِيَّةٍۢ those possessing a remnant يَنْهَوْنَ forbidding عَنِ from ٱلْفَسَادِ the corruption فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth إِلَّا except قَلِيلًۭا a few مِّمَّنْ of those أَنجَيْنَا We saved مِنْهُمْ ۗ among them وَٱتَّبَعَ But followed ٱلَّذِينَ those who ظَلَمُوا۟ did wrong مَآ what أُتْرِفُوا۟ luxury they were given فِيهِ therein وَكَانُوا۟ and they were مُجْرِمِينَ criminals ١١٦
falawlā kāna mina l-qurūni min qablikum ulū baqiyyatin yanhawna ʿani l-fasādi fī l-arḍi illā qalīlan mimman anjaynā min'hum wa-ittabaʿa alladhīna ẓalamū mā ut'rifū fīhi wakānū muj'rimīna
So why were there not among the generations before you those of enduring discrimination forbidding corruption on earth - except a few of those We saved from among them? But those who wronged pursued what luxury they were given therein, and they were criminals.
وَمَا And not كَانَ would رَبُّكَ your Lord لِيُهْلِكَ destroy ٱلْقُرَىٰ the cities بِظُلْمٍۢ unjustly وَأَهْلُهَا while its people مُصْلِحُونَ (were) reformers ١١٧
wamā kāna rabbuka liyuh'lika l-qurā biẓul'min wa-ahluhā muṣ'liḥūna
And your Lord would not have destroyed the cities unjustly while their people were reformers.
وَلَوْ And if شَآءَ your Lord (had) willed رَبُّكَ your Lord (had) willed لَجَعَلَ surely He (could) have made ٱلنَّاسَ the mankind أُمَّةًۭ one community وَٰحِدَةًۭ ۖ one community وَلَا but not يَزَالُونَ they will cease مُخْتَلِفِينَ to differ ١١٨
walaw shāa rabbuka lajaʿala l-nāsa ummatan wāḥidatan walā yazālūna mukh'talifīna
And if your Lord had willed, He could have made mankind one community; but they will not cease to differ,
إِلَّا Except مَن (on) whom رَّحِمَ your Lord has bestowed Mercy رَبُّكَ ۚ your Lord has bestowed Mercy وَلِذَٰلِكَ and for that خَلَقَهُمْ ۗ He created them وَتَمَّتْ And will be fulfilled كَلِمَةُ (the) Word of your Lord رَبِّكَ (the) Word of your Lord لَأَمْلَأَنَّ Surely I will fill جَهَنَّمَ Hell مِنَ with ٱلْجِنَّةِ the Jinn وَٱلنَّاسِ and the men أَجْمَعِينَ all together ١١٩
illā man raḥima rabbuka walidhālika khalaqahum watammat kalimatu rabbika la-amla-anna jahannama mina l-jinati wal-nāsi ajmaʿīna
Except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them. But the word of your Lord is to be fulfilled that, "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and men all together."
وَكُلًّۭا And each نَّقُصُّ We relate عَلَيْكَ to you مِنْ of أَنۢبَآءِ (the) news ٱلرُّسُلِ (of) the Messengers مَا (for) that نُثَبِّتُ We may make firm بِهِۦ with it فُؤَادَكَ ۚ your heart وَجَآءَكَ And has come to you فِى in هَـٰذِهِ this ٱلْحَقُّ the truth وَمَوْعِظَةٌۭ and an admonition وَذِكْرَىٰ and a reminder لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ for the believers ١٢٠
wakullan naquṣṣu ʿalayka min anbāi l-rusuli mā nuthabbitu bihi fuādaka wajāaka fī hādhihi l-ḥaqu wamawʿiẓatun wadhik'rā lil'mu'minīna
And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart. And there has come to you, in this, the truth and an instruction and a reminder for the believers.
