Quran Verses About Tawakkul (Trusting Allah)

التوكل

19 ayahs, with Arabic, word by word English and audio.

التوكل tawakkul relying on Allah while still doing your part

Tawakkul is reliance on Allah. In these ayahs it sits alongside effort rather than replacing it.

Yusuf 12:67 shows both in one breath. Yaqub tells his sons to enter by different gates, then says the decision belongs to Allah alone and that he relies on Him.

At-Talaq 65:3 gives the promise attached: whoever relies upon Allah, He is sufficient for him.

Ali 'Imran 3:173 records the line said under threat, when people were told an army had gathered against them: “Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.”

Ali 'Imran 3:159 places it after the decision, not instead of one. Consult them in the matter, and when you have decided, rely upon Allah.

At-Tawbah 9:51 sets the frame around all of it: nothing will strike you except what Allah has decreed for you.

Surah Ali 'Imran آل عمران
159
١٥٩

fabimā raḥmatin mina l-lahi linta lahum walaw kunta faẓẓan ghalīẓa l-qalbi la-infaḍḍū min ḥawlika fa-uʿ'fu ʿanhum wa-is'taghfir lahum washāwir'hum fī l-amri fa-idhā ʿazamta fatawakkal ʿalā l-lahi inna l-laha yuḥibbu l-mutawakilīna

So by mercy from Allāh, [O Muḥammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allāh. Indeed, Allāh loves those who rely [upon Him].

We would have invented against Allāh a lie if we returned to your religion after Allāh had saved us from it. And it is not for us to return to it except that Allāh, our Lord, should will. Thus have We sent you to a community before which [other] communities have passed on so you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return."

And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "Allāh." Say, "Then have you considered what you invoke besides Allāh?
